the emptiness of
extremist Christian rhetoric
I drew Jesus and the four people in Adobe Animate, while I drew the halo and background directly in After Effects.
In After Effects, the Puppet Tool infuses dynamic movement into static images by strategically placing and manipulating pins. These pins determine which portions of the image remain fixed, which parts undergo deformation, and the layering arrangement when elements overlap.
I utilized the Puppet Pin Tool to animate the motion of Jesus' arms. The yellow dots illustrate the pins I strategically placed.
To mimic the movement of the mouth, I illustrated eleven lips representing specific sounds using Adobe Illustrator.
In After Effects, I layered these lips on top of the original, adjusting them based on the spoken words.
I personally recorded the audio and worked to synchronize the timing of the text to align with the spoken words.
I animated the text by adjusting both its position and tracking, which controls the spacing between letters.
I illustrated the girl praying in Adobe Illustrator and utilized the Puppet Pin Tool in After Effects to animate her arms and head.
I animated the opacity, or transparency, in slightly different ways for the next three blocks of text.
At the end of the piece, I employed the Puppet Pin Tool to animate Jesus’ eyebrows. In one of the final text segments, I utilized Range Selectors to manage the opacity of individual letters. This technique allowed me to synchronize the appearance of each specific letter with the corresponding spoken word.
