questions you should never ask a trans person

This piece finds humor in the absurdity of bigotry through a kaleidoscope of impressions, animations, photography, and videography put together in Adobe After Effects.

So many cisgender people are fascinated by transgender people, causing them to speak to trans individuals as if we're not quite human.

So how do you know what is okay to ask? It’s simple:
Don’t ask a trans person anything you would not ask a cis person.

I applied frequent opacity adjustments to create a flickering effect. The background is an animated gradient that I crafted in Adobe Animate.

I used Photoshop to cut out the bodies of the celebrities, modifying their opacity settings to make them gradually appear on the screen. I animated the text’s position and opacity.

For the second question, I manipulated the opacity and position of the words. To synchronize with the appearance of the needle, I used a Range Selector to shift one side of the text.

I drew the needle, a part of my logo, in Adobe Illustrator. I animated the pink liquid coming out of the needle in Adobe Animate using Shape Tweens, a technique where you draw shapes in different frames, and Animate fills in the transitions between them.

I incorporated Shape Hints, visually represented by the letters in green and yellow circles. Shape Hints are markers placed on specific points of an object's shape that serve as guides to maintain the intended form and structure as the object transforms over time.

For the third question, I used masks to reveal the text, employing adjustments in position and opacity. Masks are graphic overlays that selectively hide or reveal specific portions of the underlying elements.

I captured the introductory image and subsequent video on my Nikon D7500. As a novice, I used Adobe Rush to edit the video and incorporated hard cuts, which are abrupt and direct transitions between clips.

I created the bathroom image in Adobe Illustrator, using numerous gradients to mimic depth. I opted for a straightforward approach in animating the position of the text.
