nonlinear thoughts
This marks my inaugural venture into the realm of animation. My objective was to unite disparate elements while upholding a sense of coherence. Hence, both the figure and the fish were rendered in shades of purple. The human form captivates my interest, prompting me to explore facial expressions in this experiment. Simultaneously, my fixation on water and its intersection with human society's environmental impact on fish served as a driving force of inspiration.
This digital animation utilizes the frame-by-frame technique, where each frame is drawn individually to simulate motion, departing from computer-generated animation and digital rigging methods. Despite being digital, it preserves the traditional essence of frame-by-frame animation.
As demonstrated below, this technique is evident in the subtle transformation of the purple gradient and the nuanced difference of a single frame between the eye open and closed.
These images illustrate the eye moving toward the center in a sequence of 5 frames.
I increased the size of the mouth until it filled the entire screen with black. Afterward, I swapped the mouth with a fish, adjusting its scale so that the black of its eye also covered the entire screen for a seamless transition.
I changed the size of the fish's fins every three frames to simulate movement.
I drew the bubbles and then progressively removed portions of them in reverse order.
